Understanding Ageing

As we age, there is a gradual decline in our body’s function. How well our organs function is based on the functionality of the cells within them and these cells will deteriorate in functionality as we age. The number of cells in the body will also drastically be reduced, which leads to a weakened immune system and ultimately the deterioration of body organs.

An obvious sign of ageing involves the change in hormones in both men and women. Hormones are chemicals that coordinate different functions in your body by carrying messages through your blood to your organ, skin, muscles and other tissues. These signals tell your body what to do and when to do it. Hormones are essential for life and your health.

In women, the decline in oestrogen and progesterone levels is what leads to Menopause. In men, the decline in testosterone levels leads to Andropause. For both men and women, these changes can have effects on the individual both mentally and physically.

For women, a natural process of changes in hormones occur from puberty, pregnancy, breastfeeding, up to menopause. On top of these constant changes, many women experience symptoms of hormonal imbalance attributed by other causes which include:

Men too suffer from hormonal imbalance throughout their life which include:

Hormonal Imbalance increases the risk of getting cancer like prostate cancer, chronic disease – high blood pressure, high sugar level, high cholesterol level. Other external factors that contribute to the ageing process include adopting an unhealthy lifestyle, exposure to a polluted environment, pressures from work, virus infection and chronic stress.

Studies have shown that ageing process will have adverse effect on the regenerative ability of stem cells. These stem cells provide new cells for the body as it grows, and replace specialised cells that are damaged or lost. They have two unique properties that enable them to do this: They can divide over and over again to produce new cells. As they divide, they can change into other types of cell that make up the body.

Healthy ageing refers to postponement or reduction in the undesired effects of ageing which is the goal of Bioscor – Malaysia.

What is MSC?

MSC stands for Mesenchymal Stem Cells, which are adult stem cells that can be found in multiple tissues, including umbilical cord, bone marrow, dental pulp and fat tissues. It has the ability to self-multiply and differentiate into other specific cells such as bone, cartilage, muscle and fat cells, and connective tissues. As such it provides regenerative results through seeking out areas of damage, paracrine signalling and regulating immune responses. MSC are also immune privilege cells. The goal of MSC therapy is to stimulate and accelerate cell rejuvenation and regeneration, thereby slowing down the natural process of ageing and counteracting chronic diseases. It enables the body to harness the body’s natural abilities to heal and regenerate.

Here at Bioscor (Malaysia) the MSC stem cells are derived from Wharton Jelly of the umbilical cord. This form of MSC, similarly to MSC’s derived from other sources, have distinct capacity for self-renewal while maintaining their multi-potency. It has no ethical issues compared to other stem cell sources.

The source of the stem cell is compliant to international standard regulation cGMP, ISO 9001 & ISO 13485.
